How to Look Forward to Your Mornings?

how to look forward to your mornings

For a vast majority of people, waking up earlier is viewed as a punishment. When we have to do it, we must go to bed earlier, which means we are missing out on whatever fun and excitement happen in the night.

Most of the times we attempt to go to bed earlier, we toss and turn, unable to fall asleep, massaging thoughts of “I HAVE TO fall asleep faster otherwise I will be too tired tomorrow to hear my alarm!” We get so stressed by this, that falling sleep will very likely be delayed and we will wake up tired. You can’t expect that it will be smooth sailing from Day 1. Instead, become aware of all the things that might stand in your way.

The key here (and pretty much anywhere else we attempt a habit change) is to adjust your thoughts and take ownership of how you conduct your life.

Instead of I HAVE TO wake up earlier, say to yourself I CHOOSE to wake up earlier.

As busy moms of tiny humans, what we crave most is silence and personal time. There should be no guilt associated with this. Our reservoir of happiness must be filled first, so we can have the resources to give to our families.

So yes, when introducing a new habit, it will be difficult at first. There will be adjustments to be made to your schedule. You will have to sleep earlier, ask for help with household and optimize the systems you have in place for running your home. But CHOOSE to do it to improve your life. You don’t HAVE TO for somebody else, or to be part of a trend. CHOOSE it for your sanity.

So what will you do in the morning that makes you excited?

    • Drink your coffee in silence.
    • Eat your breakfast sitting down at a table, using grown up cutlery and plates.
    • Read some pages from your novel.
    • Write.
    • Pray.
    • Add to your scrapbook.
    • Work on those baby memories books.
    • Organize your family photo album.
    • Meditate.
    • Take a bath.
    • Go for a walk or run.
    • Listen to a podcast.

Whatever you CHOOSE, do it mindfully. Spend this time intentionally. Don’t just let life happen to you. Be the master of it and choose what you do with your time.

What can you delete from the "I HAVE TO" list and replace it with "I CHOOSE TO?"

Taking care of yourself first is not selfish, it is healthy.
